Get Knowledge About Different Types Of Tow Trucks

November 6, 2008 by admin

Tow trucks are vehicles used to pull other vehicles. They are commonly used to haul vehicles that have failed due to mechanical errors or that have been in an accident. Most of these trucks are owned by private business owners who earn their money removing vehicles from roads, highways, ditches, and other situations. Some tow trucks, however, are owned by the government and used to patrol toll roads and highways. Some companies also own tow trucks that are used exclusively to tow other vehicles owned by the company.

There are three main types of tow trucks for sale: hook and chain, wheel-lift, and flat bed. Hook and chain tow trucks, also referred to as sling tow trucks, are no longer used as much as they once were. This is because hook and chain tow trucks work by wrapping a chain around the axle or frame of the vehicle. This can cause scratches or other damage to the car. Typically, hook and chain tow trucks are reserved for vehicles that have been damaged in an accident, vehicles that do not have their front wheels or their back wheels, and vehicles with steel bumpers.

Wheel lift tow trucks are similar to hook and chain tow trucks, but they use a metal yoke rather than a chain. This yoke is hooked under either the front or the rear wheels of the vehicle to be towed. Using a hydraulic or pneumatic hoist, the front or the rear portion of the vehicle is lifted from the ground as it is towed.

Flatbed tow trucks, also called rollback tow trucks, contain a large empty bed in the back of the truck. Using hydraulics, this bed can be inclined in order to form the shape of a ramp. The vehicle can then be either driven onto the flatbed, or a winch can be used to drag it into place. After the vehicle is in place, hydraulics are used again to level out the flatbed in order to haul the vehicle.  New or used Rollback tow trucks for sale are the preferred method for hauling vehicles, because they do not place pressure on the vehicle or drag it for a period of time. Rather, all of the stress is placed on the tow truck.

Information About Discount Truck Tires

Truck Tires have to operate amongst the most strenuous of all environments, when one looks at the automobile sector. Since purchase of regular tires can be a costly affair, truck owners often opt for a cheaper alternative.

There are many necessary details which have to be kept in mind when one goes in for purchasing Discount Tires for Trucks. These tires must ensure smooth operability while catering to different loads across roads, and provide traction irrespective of weather. Tires for trucks come in a range of sizes and are designed to perform well in a wide range of temperatures.

Different techniques are followed before and after manufacture to ensure longevity of traction. The tire pressure is a very important parameter, and tire pressure should be kept at ideal levels in all the tires within a vehicle. If there is low air pressure in one tire, it puts undue strain on another, and thus the wear-and-tear rate is enhanced.

Regular servicing after every 35,000 miles ensures that the tires remain roadworthy for a long time. Depending on the usage requirements, some tire companies also reinforce load capacity. Speed ratings are also available. This can be used to augment the load-carrying capacity of the vehicle.

New or used trucks come in various sizes, and there is often some degree of variance between trucks used for ferrying passengers and those used to transport goods. The new or used light duty trucks are often employed under tough operating conditions, like off-road travel and overloading. This puts added strain on the tires, which must be able to respond to varying quantities of load and road condition. Thus, the tires for light duty trucks often have an extra layer and\or a larger bead, with enhanced sidewall rubber to provide additional strength.

Poor Cash Test Ratings For Small Trucks

Recent crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety revealed poor crashworthiness among small 2008 pickup trucks.

The Institute reports that crashes of small trucks result in the highest driver death rates of any vehicles on the road, even minicars, in part because small trucks are involved in more single vehicle crashes and rollovers than other vehicles.

The Need for Electronic Stability Control :
The Institute encouraged truck manufacturers to make Electronic Stability Control a standard feature.

Pickup trucks light weight and typical stiff suspension makes it more likely to bounce than a car or SUV. If you hit the brakes hard, the weight of the truck is transferred towards the front wheels, making the rear even lighter. And when you swerve to avoid an object, the lighter rear end can make the truck turn sideways, causing a loss of traction at the rear wheels.

Electronic stability control steps in to automatically adjust a truck’s brake pressure and steering response during an emergency, helping keep it upright and on the road. Unfortunately, stability control is standard on only 12-percent of 2008 trucks, and available on only about a third of current models.

ESC is standard on three small 2009 trucks: Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado and GMC Sierra. It’s available on the 2009 Nissan Frontier.

Best and Worst Performers - Small Truck Crash Tests :

* Toyota Tacoma earned the only good rating in side crashes and frontal crashes; its seat/head restraints earned a marginal rating for protection from whiplash in rear-end crashes.

* The Dodge Dakota truck earned a marginal rating in side crash tests and a good rating for frontal crashes.

* The Nissan Frontier earned a marginal rating in side crash tests; no word on frontal tests.

* The Ford Ranger truck earned a marginal rating in side crash tests and a good rating for frontal crashes. The Institute declared the Ranger’s back jump seats unsafe for children. One study shows that kids riding in jump seats are 4 times more likely to be injured in a crash than children riding in the back seats of other vehicles.

* Chevy Colorado truck and GMC Canyon truck were the only trucks to earn the lowest rating, poor, in the Institute’s side impact crash tests. The dummy driver’s head was hit by the moving barrier and the side of the truck allowed more intrusion into the cab than other trucks. The Colorado and Canyon are rated acceptable for protection in frontal crashes.

Standard Side Airbags :
Toyota asked the Institute to test the 2008 Tacoma with its optional side airbags because they’ll be a standard feature in 2009. Airbags are optional on the Dakota, Frontier, Colorado and Canyon, and not available at all on the Ranger.

Information About GMC Sierra Hybrid Truck

October 24, 2008 by admin

The 2005 GMC Sierra Hybrid is really just a regular old GMC Sierra 1500 truck, but with integrated starter and generator (ISG) and regenerative braking. With the ISG, the engine shuts off at stoplights and instantly starts when you step on the gas. The regenerative braking means you never have to plug it in. This vehicle was a valuable learning tool for GM; it learned it must go deep into hybrid technology or go home.

The GMC Sierra truck for sale looks like a conventional extended cab Sierra 2WD pick up truck with big stick-on graphics on both the side and the rear tailgate. These proclaim the vehicle’s hybrid-ness. But this one is not really a hybrid. At least, it’s not what the world thinks of as a hybrid. It has really only two pieces of what can be labelled true hybrid technology: the integrated starter and generator (ISG) and regenerative braking. Oh, and you can also plug large electric power tools into two sockets near the back of the box and run them off the battery pack. But that feature hasn’t got all that much – if anything - to do with this being or not being a hybrid.

This Sierra won’t attract the high school set with its regular size wheels, a 4-speed automatic, conventional 5.3L V-8 engine (5300 Vortec) and unfashionably long box. Which would probably make it just about ideal for a tradesman or a farmer – especially if that person has to work on job sites that aren’t serviced with electricity. With the exception of the heavy sticker price, this one would seem to have almost everything you’d need or want in a working pick up truck.

It’s not really a hybrid. At least it’s not in the sense that the Lexus RX 400h and the Honda Accord Hybrid are hybrids. Like the Japanese (or real) hybrids, the GMC hybrid has regenerative braking and ISG. However, unlike them, it only has a small (42W) battery pack. The sole purpose of the battery pack seems to be to re-start the engine at stoplights and, of course, to power the APO, which will be of use to many tradesmen and farmers.

It’s very comfortable for two adults. But more can actually fit in. With back-hinged (suicide) doors providing easy access to the small but practical-sized rear bench, two full-size adults could sit back there in relative comfort for short trips.

The GMC Sierra Hybrid truck drives like a regular 2WD GM Sierra pickup most of the time, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since that’s what it is. The major difference between driving the regular Sierra and the Hybrid can be felt when you’re stopped for more than a few seconds – like at a traffic light – the engine shuts off and what you’ve got is complete silence. This can be eerie at first, especially if you’ve never driven any other hybrid vehicle. Then the instant you step on the gas pedal, the engine fires back to life and you’re off.

The second big difference is regenerative braking. When you take your foot off the gas – for example, when you’re descending a hill or even a modest grade - you feel a slight drag. That’s the system collecting the energy from the slowing vehicle and storing it in the battery pack for future use. This too can be off-putting at first. Finally, you have to be wary when you’re stopped on a grade because with this system, the auto transmission won’t hold the vehicle from rolling backwards. You have to keep your foot on the brake to prevent smacking into the car behind.

But even this modest or hybrid-light system should return 10% - 12% better fuel economy than the regular Sierra V-8.The GMC Sierra Hybrid truck is an important transition vehicle for GM. When the current fuel consumption regulations were enacted back in the mid-1970s, light trucks accounted for perhaps 20% of new vehicle sales and farmers and other business owners mostly used them. However for the past few years well over 50% of the vehicles GM has been selling in North America have been light duty trucks, a category which includes pick up trucks, minivans and SUVs. The majority of these have been purchased by families.

The Dodge Truck History

The American branch of Chrysler’s corporation, specializes on automobile production, and also off-highway vehicles production. The headquarters is in Highland-park (suburb of Detroit).

Americans John and Horace Dodge formed their own company in 1914 and they were one of the first who have begun the production of vehicles with all-metal body. The company of Dodge brothers has started the production of own cars in 1914. The small firm which is engaged earlier by package production for the Ford and Olds Motor factories, has absorbed all technological novelties of that time, including the Ford’s technology of standardization and flow production assembling (Henry Ford even presented judicial claims to brothers, however, without success).

The first vehicle Dodge Brothers which have playfully nicknamed The Old woman Betsy later, has left the factory on November, 14th, 1914 - and after it to the end of year Dodges have made 249 the same vehicles. Each of them has the firm emblem of the company on the radiator top tank - the globe placed in the center of the David’s star: the brothers remembered their roots.

By 1920 the company took the second place on automobile production after Ford, but in the same 1920 both of the brothers have died, and the new head of the company became Fred G. Hanes. The fortune of brothers Dodge was very solid – more than 20 millions dollars for everyone. Besides the brothers’ successors (nobody remains except the widows), have received 50 % of the authorized capital for everyone. But both widows had no enterprise talents, so business has gone down.

In 1928 concern Dodge became a part of Chrysler’s corporation. Nowadays, alongside with cars, also off-road vehicles, Dodge trucks and pickup trucks are marked Dodge. Trade mark Dodge changed constantly, but more often (as in nowadays) it is an emblem of the sheep’s head. Some experts consider that it’s the fault of one of Dodge’s models, which bent exhaust manifold reminded screw horns of the wild sheep.

Information On Kenworth Truck Clearance Sale

October 21, 2008 by admin

In today’s economy, start up and seasoned businesses have an unique opportunity to acquire an attractive deal for any type of Kenworth truck. The first option, for the buyer, is to visit their local truck dealer and find his truck there. This is great place to start and obtain pertinent information that will be used later in the data gathering process. From there, it is recommended searching the internet and its mass volume of data that is available. He is able to sort and sift through this vast data and should be able to find a truck, in any city and/or state across the U.S, that meets his acquistion requirements. Once he has located a source of trucks available to him, he is able to contact these sellers and negotiate a deal that might be able to meet his needs. Once he is agreed to a price and its particulars, his next hurdle is to find adequate financing in today’s complex lending world of this commodity.

News Update, As this economy is wavering in all different directions. things will need to know are the following: Investigate your banks and their lending requirements, finding out their key interest rates and see if they are competive with other lending institutions. Understand their lending rules and their down payment requirements, key lending rates and what they specialize in. A lot of lenders today are staying away from over the road truck lending. This is a special niche market and they don’t understand or care to know its particulars. Be careful, if possible and see if their is current information on your lenders so your can protect yourself. As we will disuss below, lenders, today, have a tremendous amount of repossessions in all different types of industries. This may be a great buying opportunity if you have the revenue support in your contract and the time frame to cover the obligation.

In the last twelve months, lenders have taken back repos at unheard of levels. This is an opportunity for either the startup owner operator or the seasoned business operator to acquire a deal…..The buyer should still proceed with caution and ascertain understanding of all the factets of the deal including the residual buyout clauses…

The type of Kenworth trucks we are identifying for this article is the following:
Kenworth dump trucks, Kenworth semi trucks, Kenworth garbage and refuse trucks, Kenworth Tow trucks, Kenworth Cement Trucks, Kenworth Concrete Trucks, Kenworth Flatbed Trucks, Kenworth dump Trucks, Kenworth Water Trucks, Kenworth Vacuum Trucks, etc.

Today, the financing arena for Kenworth trucks has become much smaller, especially for over the road trucks.. Lenders, in the past, that use to finance this niche market have either pulled their portfolio funds out of this area or have modified its lending requirements. It is not unheard of today that a start up business must commit to a down payment of between 10% - 30% of the acquistion cost of the Kenworth truck to enter this market. The seasoned business with good credit might be able to get in as little as one payment down plus documents fees but must have either A or B Credit. Other seasoned businesses that don’t meet these credit requirements, may be required to put up 10-20% down or either put up additional collateral as their credit scores fall below 600. Most buyers don’t enjoy these tightening financial requirements, are locked out of this market, and will start looking for alternatives that are available due to market conditions. In addition to the market requirements of substantial monies due upfront, the conventional lender has modified his risk/reward factor for the failure and possible repossession of these trucks. Therefore, the rate and/or interest factor that the lender charges has gone up making it a bigger challenge to complete the financing end once the want to be buyer locates his acquisition….

As the economy has weakened due to market conditions, including diesel gas reaching $5.00 or more per gallon in certain states in the past few months, the route of conventional financing has changed as we know it. The lender has acquired another problem that makes their equation a little more complicated. In the past year as the price of food has gone up, the real estate markets have taken a toll for the worse and other world factors have caused the banks to be more unstable, the trucking industry has become more volatile. As the increase of defaults on the payments of Freightliner and all other trucks have risen to all time highs, the lenders have been taking back these trucks by the droves that are earmarked as repossessions. This has caused a problem with normal lending practices and trying to balance it with a non producing income portfolio. If these lenders don’t act swiftly and prudently, the combination of these two type of portfolios can be devasating to the lenders’ bottom line.

A third factor to consider is the off lease truck. These trucks are being returned to the lender and they must act accordingly with this third factor. By definition, a Kenworth off lease Truck has been returned to the lender as the lease has expired. The lessee has made a decision to return the item in lieu of exercising the buyout option. A repossession is different than an off lease because it has arisen due to a default of the lessee for non payment terms or a violation of the terms of the lease. Either way, the lender has taken these trucks back and/and now must recondition these trucks and either sell these trucks or re-lease them.

Today, some of the lenders in the financial market have advertised personal credit qualifications as low as 600, prior bankruptcy rules amended or ignored, and start up businesses welcome. Additionally, the front money to commence a lease can start as low as first payment only to whatever you might able to negotiate. Some of the lenders have application only programs up to $250,000. There are no financial statements, income tax returns or bank statements required. Additionally, some lenders may defer some of payments to get the semi trucks financed.

In conclusion, this is a buyer’s market for Kenworth trucks. One should evaluate all the factors relating to this acquisition including gas costs, air emissions, environmental type requirements., buyout clauses acquisition costs and its related financing.

Additionally, there are two distinct financing markets out there, one for the normal acquisition from the dealership and the possibility of acquiring a repo and off lease from a lender at favorable market and financing terms. As always it is advisable, if possible, to locate financing prior to truck shopping, it could save a lot of time and stress.

Ford Launches New Incentives For Pickup Trucks

October 20, 2008 by admin

With its recent announcement that it’ll scale back full-size truck production, Ford seems intent to manage supplies of its F-series pickups in a waning market. But what happens to the trucks that already lie on dealer lots? Through June 30th, Ford will sell virtually any 2008 F-150, F-250, or Ford F-350  trucks at an employee’s discount price.

Truck dealers will soon be affixing additional window stickers that reflect the new pricing scheme. Although Ford hasn’t released details of how much a discount this amounts to, expect to see something close to Ford A- or Z-plan pricing, moving the sticker price to below the dealer’s invoice price.

Models not included in the incentives are any commercial chassis-cab models, the new F-150 Harley Davidson edition, and the massive new Ford F-450 Super Duty.

Although the incentives are a way to move excess ‘08 inventory before the all-new 2009 F-150 reaches showrooms, they’re also Ford’s hope to get the F-series to sell - period.

After a 17-year run of being the best-selling vehicle in the United States, the F-150 slid to fifth place in May of 2008, with only 42,973 units moving off dealers’ lots. Honda’s Civic stole the first-place position, with 53,299 sales.

Looking at the year-to-date sales data, the Ford F-150 truck is still in first place. However, if fuel costs continue to rise and consumers keep shifting to smaller vehicles, the record may not last through the end of the year.
